TGIFF - Sailing Away

First project completed from my FAL Q3 list!!

An 8 x 9 inch paper pieced mini of the Maritime Modern Quilt Guild logo.

Wavy lines quilted with invisible thread.

I am very happy with the end result.  But as I finished sewing the binding on....I realized that I didn't include hanging corners so I can hang the mini.  Seriously???  I can't believe I forgot.  Oh well....

Now to decide which project to tackle next.

WIP Wednesday - QAL Fabric Choices

I'll be playing along with Yvonne @ Quilting Jetgirl for her Snowflake Shimmer QAL.  There's still time to join -- you can find the details here.

Here are my fabric choices.  All the fabrics were from my stash, including Kona Pepper for the background.

And I'll also be playing along with Cheryl @ Meadow Mist Designs for her mystery QAL -- Meadow Mystery.  The details are here if you want to play along as well.

I was pleased to find all these in my stash, including Kona Chartreuse and Kona Snow.

Let the fun begin!

Friday Finish - Waterproofed for Camp

I've been away at Guiding Mosaic 2016 -- a national Girl Guide camp -- that was held at Sylvan Lake in Alberta from July 9 to July 17.  I went as Core Crew to ensure the camp ran smoothly for all the participants, so I left on July 5.  Although I had a great time, I am so happy to be back home in my own bed and in dry weather.

Ziploc bags are a Girl Guide's best friend -- keeps everything neat and tidy and, more importantly, dry.  So knowing that I'd be in a tent for two weeks with the possibility of rain, I decided to make a few zippered pouches using PUL.

I used Noodlehead's open wide zippered pouch pattern, but skipped the interfacing.  It was a bit tricky sewing, but you just have to remember to go slow.

Butterflies.

Little monsters.

And ducks for the inside of both pouches.

I see more PUL pouches in my future.  They are more fun than ziploc bags.

Forgotten Friday Finish - Mini Mini Edition

And yet another forgotten Friday finish.  Maritime Modern Quilt Guild did a 6-inch mini mini swap.

I decided to make pinwheels from tiny HST's.  This is the second time I've done pinwheels in a mini mini, and I quite like it.  Yes, there is snow in the backyard.  The swap was originally scheduled for March (when I took the photo), but due to a snowstorm, our meeting was cancelled.  The swap was postponed until June.

I received this awesome mini mini from Crystal.  Those are tiny EPP hexies...wow.

I've been so busy that I haven't thought about making more mini minis, but I think it's time to work on some designs.  Have a great weekend!

Modern HST Sampler - Q2 Blocks

Alyce at Blossom Heart Quilts is hosting a Modern HST Sampler quilt along this year.

You can see my Q1 blocks here.

And here are my Q2 blocks:

Pointed

Intersection

Diagonal

Faceted Stripe

Starshine

Rockpool

We've been learning how to make 3-inch and 4-inch finished HST's using various methods:  two-at-a-time, four-at-a-time, and eight-at-a-time.  It's been great learning new techniques.

The tutorial for Block #13 is out....2-inch HST's....oh my....

Finish Along 2016 - Q3 Goals

It's hard to believe that 2016 is half over.  Where does the time go?

I've been playing along with Finish Along 2016 in an attempt to keep me focused on unfinished projects and to get them finished in a timely manner.  Every quarter, you set goals, with the hope to achieve them all.  I achieved all my goals for Q1 and Q2.  Yeah me!!

I've decided to stretch my boundaries, and I'm setting six goals for Q3.  I've been linking up via Leanne at She Can Quilt; however, there are many hosts that you can link up with.

1.  Wonky Mini Charms
This is a mini quilt top I finished here back in April.  I'm not sure why I haven't quilted it, but it's now in the queue.  Just need to figure out how to quilt it.

2.  Notched
This is another quilt top I finished back in April.  I have avoided this one because I have no clue on how to quilt it.

3.  Mini MMQG Logo
This little paper pieced logo for the Maritime Modern Quilt Guild from April is destined to be a bag or a mini.  I just need to put my mind to it and make a decision.

4.  One Block Wonder Baby Quilt
Oops....this is another WIP from April.  It appears I was very productive creating quilt tops in April...I just didn't follow through and quilt them.  This is the Diamond Path block designed Sandy @ Upstairs Hobby Room.

5.  One Block Wonder Baby Quilt - Purple Version
I liked the Diamond Path block so much, I made a purple and green version.

6.  Wonky Large Charms
I really enjoyed the wonky charm tutorial by Jayne @ Twiggy and Opal that I decided to make a quilt using 5-inch charms.  I used Kona Pear for the background.  This one is for me.

A closeup of some of the gorgeous orange squares.  I used the charm pack I received from Jenn @ A Quarter Inch from the Edge for our Bee Christmas exchange.

I hope I am productive over the summer and can get all these projects finished by the end of September.  The key is not to start too many new projects before finishing these...aka all the wonderful new patterns I bought for May is for Makers...I see several vacation days being scheduled in the name of quilting.

Forgotten Friday Finish - Mini Swap

Oh my...I forgot about a finish.  Back in April, my guild (Maritime Modern Quilt Guild) did a 12-inch mini swap with Fraser Valley Modern Quilt Guild.

I received a wonderful plus mini made by Courtney.  And there's orange!!  It was a blind swap, but lucky me to receive some orange.

A closeup of the quilting.  Looked at the orange stripey binding.

In return, I made a Hazel Hedgehog by Elizabeth Hartman.  I didn't enjoy making this as some of the pieces were tiny, but I think I'll try the larger size block in Hazel Hedgehog II.

Simple grid quilting

It's fun to make small projects -- quicker gratification on the finish.  Maybe I'll make some more minis over the summer....hmmm....

WIP Wednesday - Fancy Fox

I recently stocked up on thread from Connecting Threads, and since we were already at free shipping (a group purchase), I decided to look around.  And what did I find...a sale on a kit for Fancy Fox II by Elizabeth Hartman.  I've been wanting to make this pattern for a long time, and even in US dollars, it was a deal that I couldn't pass up -- pattern and fabric included.

A closeup of that adorable face.

And imagine my surprise that I was able to make two pillows out of the fabric provided (just needed to do a little piecing of the border in the second pillow).  I'm not sure yet if there's enough backing fabric for both pillows, so I might need to search the stash.

I haven't decided yet if I'll add the glasses.  I think these will make a great gift.

Maybe I'll try Hazel Hedgehog II next....

Finish Along 2016 - Q2 Finishes

Back in April, I set three goals to achieve for the second quarter of Finish Along 2016.

2016 FAL

And I finished all three!!!

Strip Twist - read about the finish here.

Floating Triangles - read about the finish here.

Inside Out/Plus Quilt - read about the finish here.

I love any linkup that gives me motivation to stay focused on a project and get it finished.  Thanks to all the wonderful ladies hosting Finish Along 2016.  You should visit and see all the creativity out there.

Now what projects need to be finished??  They will be my Q3 goals.

#Brave Quilter - Paper Piecing Conquered!

Riding a bit of a high from Glamp Stitchalot and feeling cocky about my paper piecing skills, I decided to set paper piecing as my #BraveQuilter June goal.

I jumped right in and finished off my Carolyn Friedlander row.  Woo hoo!!  And then I saw my mistake....are you kidding me???  I pieced a section in blocks 2 and 3 wrong (middle and right).  So I took apart block 1 (the least amount of seam ripping).

Success!  A finished row.  A few imperfections but all in all pretty darn good.

And then on to the airplanes by Rashida Coleman-Hale.

I just need to piece these two planes to the one I finished at Glamp.  Not sure in which order to put the colours.

I didn't finish the paper piecing blocks by Penny Layman as they don't appeal to me.  Maybe I'll work on them over the summer....or not.

Linking up with Pink Doxies as I'm a #Brave Quilter!!!
