I tried some dot-to-dot quilting à la Angela Walters. I highly recommend her class: Angela Walters: Dot to Dot Quilting (this is an affiliate link whereby I receive a small commission if you purchase the class). I'm halfway through her class: Machine Quilting: Small Changes, Big Variety.
Some of my straight lines are a bit wonky. My Pfaff that I use on a frame is in for cleaning and tune-up, and my LQS is going to order a ruler foot. It's time to buy some rulers because I clearly can't sew a straight line on my own. But the great thing is that I now know how to quilt Night Sky!

Hi Anja, I have Small Changes too, it's very good. You probably notice flaws more than anyone else, we are always our own worst critics. Your quilting looks great to me, it's a lovely wallhanging and I like what you did to the border.

ReplyDeleteWow! A wonderful Friday finish! The quilting looks great. Quilting straight lines just comes with practice! No one does it perfectly! Just remember, using rulers will require lots of practice, like everything else in FMQ! XO

ReplyDeleteGirl, I know your pain! I have to use a ruler for any line longer than three inches. I have acrylic squares and circles that came with my Innova and they practically save me every time. Funny how I can make a relatively straight line along the very edge of the quilt, but get where I need one, and no way is it going to happen. Even using the squares gets dicey at times. This star quilt is a winner! I love the contrast of color and the star is perfectly pointy.

I love that the pattern that didn't resize so well for a medallion centre got a second try in a different colour for a pretty wall-hanging.

ReplyDeleteAnja the photo shoot is FABULOUS---it GLOWS in those shots! In the first FMQ class I took YEARS ago at my LQS, she told us the hardest thing to FMQ is a straight line, and it's so true. Think how hard it is to freehand draw a straight line...glad you're getting rulers. They take another learning curve but you'll love them. You know, I never saw the wobbles until you said; I just smiled when I saw this. :-)
