WIP Wednesday - #100Blocks#100Days

I'm playing along with #100Blocks100Days hosted by Angie @ Gnome Angel on Instagram.  You can get the details here.  We are making all 100 of the 6.5-inch blocks in Tula Pink's book 100 Modern Quilt Blocks.

You can follow my progress on Instagram @AnjaQuilts.

We are a little more than halfway through the 100 blocks, having completed 35 blocks.  I'm getting a little stressed with all the 1-inch and 1.5-inch pieces.  Where are the bigger pieces?????

I didn't (and still don't) have a plan with respect to colour scheme -- I'm just working my way through my scraps.  I will likely have to put sashing between the blocks when I'm finished as I have quite the mish mash of colours and prints.

  1. I love Tula's blocks! I started doing her blocks a couple of years ago, and then when a few moves came up, I lost the time and then have been having a hard time getting back in the habit of a block every couple of days or so. I haven't done enough to get frustrated by the tiny pieces yet, but I can imagine after a few of those, I would be wondering where the big pieces are too!
I also started mine with scrap use in mind with no regard to color. Maybe seeing your progress will get me back into doing mine seriously again.
    Yours look really great!

  2. Very neat idea! I don't think I could do a block a day but they are very pretty blocks :)

  3. They look great together! I started making some of these 2 years ago and got to about 36 so this could be the perfect thing to kick start it again. I remember when I was starting the blocks Stephanie at Quarter Incher laid hers out on point and it was really nice looking http://www.quarterincher.com/2014/01/tula-pinks-city-sampler-quilt-top.html

  4. It's been so much fun following your progress on Instagram, Anja! Your blocks are each gorgeous on their own and I'm certain that once you start piecing them into rows, they will make a beautiful quilt. I like Ruth's suggestion of putting them on point!

  6. They're looking good! I know your stress over little pieces - did it, and will wait awhile before doing it again. Thanks for sharing your progress at Midweek Makers

  7. Maybe I should have chosen to do these instead of the Splendid Sampler. These look far less fiddly and time-consuming and are still very cute!

  9. Incredible work and a great challenge, especially with all those small pieces.

  10. I love seeing your blocks pop up on IG! I love scrappy quilts, and I'm sure some sashing or something like it will help to tie all the random colours together. And I don't really think there's room for many big pieces in a 6" block :D

  11. Wow, look how they are accumulating! I should pull out my Tula and work again on it, think I was at #15 (and I'm making two of each, with the idea of each quilt going to a daughter). It's nice to have a mindless project at your fingertips each day right?

  12. It's hard to believe that you guys are already on block 35-ish. It seems like it just started. I love that little block with the owl fabrics in the 9 patch. It's like little eye balls looking at you :)
