DrEAMi - Flora Supply Case

Squirrel...

Do you get sidetracked by unplanned projects?  You know you do.  😊
Then this linky party is for you, hosted by Sandra @ Musings of Menopausal Melon.

Earlier this month, I stumbled upon an Instragram QAL for Clover and Violet's Flora Supply Case.  It started out simple enough -- patchwork exterior and inside pockets.

Sewing the interior and exterior together was easy.  But then I had difficulty sewing on the zipper and the bias tape (was too lazy to make bias binding).

I did not do a great job, but I managed to get the binding on...now ready for hand stitching.

My hand stitching skills need improvement, but it's finished.

It's a nice enough case, but I find it too stiff, and it's difficult to zip up, especially around the corners.  Not sure that I would make it again.

Here's a view of the exterior.

I'm glad I tried something new, but disappointed that I wasted time on something that I'm not happy with, especially when I could have been working on other projects.

  1. Well that just sucks. That you're not happy because I think this is gorgeous Anja! I love the navy and orange together with that pop of the prisms fabric. As for hand-stitching skills needing improvement, um okay? Like how? I'm serious. I think you will get a few little gathers here and there if that's what you mean, because of all the bulk? I know I did one case, like a mini suitcase almost, that drove me bonkers at the zipper and lining push what where stage, but I got 'er done. What will you use this for? Thanks so much for linking up with my first linky! Also for not being afraid to show that not all squirrels are yummy distractions...ha!

  2. I really like it, Anja. You may be a little discouraged, but when you put it to use, you'll be very glad you have it. XO

  3. I watched this from afar on instagram, and I think you are being too hard on yourself Anja. I loved this and think you did really well. I certainly wouldn't have done so well

  4. I like this Anja. I think you are being to critical, sure there is a lot of bulk with the zipper tape and binding but it turned out really nice. Enjoy it!

  6. I really like your finish. I had seen this pattern before but I was terrified to attempt it because of the zipper. Seems so troublesome to sew the zipper on it. Glad you made it through :)

  7. I think you need to stick it in a drawer for a couple weeks and then pull it out again. Sometimes a little distance helps you to see what the rest of us see. It's a lovely looking bag and I agree, you're being too hard on yourself.

  8. Hello! Sorry to see you are disappointed. But thanks for telling it like it is! Everything online looks so easy sometimes (and it's good to know I'm not the only one struggling with zips, for example). I believe that you always get something out of a project (even if it's something along the lines of "I'll do it differently next time"). Good luck with your next project. PS Have you tried this one?

  9. I'm sorry you are disappointed with your bag - I think it's lovely. Don't look at it as wasted time though. Hopefully you learned something from your experience and learning is never wasted time. :-)
