TGIFF - Fllying Confetti Quilt #2

I've been playing along with the Flying Confetti QAL hosted by Teresa @ Sewn Up, Teresa Down Under.  The pattern is from her book Turnabout Patchwork.

I made two quilt tops because I was having so much fun and pieced my first top ahead of the QAL schedule, forgetting that Teresa was going to show us how to quilt-as-you-go without using sashing.  In the end, I decided not to use this technique as the backing does not get as much quilting as the front.

Since this was a bonus quilt,  I decided to practice my free-motion quilting skills.  I used Kona Seafoam (background fabric) and Peridot for the binding.  I didn't have enough Peridot (only had a fat quarter) to do the entire quilt, but I had one 5-inch strip of the Seafoam, so I was able to piece them together to get enough binding.  The quilt finishes at 35-inches square.

I have done a flower motif a few times, so decided to attempt a double flower.  And in true form, I didn't practice but rather jumped right in.  I used yellow thread, as I have heard yellow is a good neutral colour for quilting.

I think I did a good job.  A few times I forgot I was doing a double flower and only did a single one.  LOL  I guess it gives the quilt some personality.

And since I'm comfortable quilting my first name, I've started practicing my last name.  This is a little large, but I hope to scale it down so I can sign/label all my quilts.  I forgot I was going to quilt my last name, so there's a loop between my names.  I'll have to work on a better transition.

I really like the charm squares I found in my stash -- bright and colourful.  And I love the look of the yellow thread.

The flowers and loops give the quilt texture without taking away from the colourful triangles.

  1. I love this! What a fun pattern - it makes me want to go dig through my stash and start one right now. :) And talk about inspiring - I love the double flowers in yellow. I might just have to give that a go on my next small free motion project!

  2. Wow Anja. I love the quilting you did on this quilt. The double flower an loops look amazing in the yellow thread. I may have to use it more than I have already.

  6. It is lovely, Anja, and a great way to practise some different quilting motifs. I like the idea of quilting your name into it; must try that myself. Thanks for sharing.
