TGIFF - Alison Glass Stitch Club

Have you joined the Alison Glass Stitch Club?  I'm playing along.  For June's project, we learned abut kantha style embroidery.

The project started out as a pillow cover, but quickly turned into a placemat.

It's basically a big running stitch.  I used a few colours of perle cotton.

I didn't finish the edges with a whipstitch.  This piece has been sitting on my coffee table for weeks, waiting to be finished...so I just machine stitched around the edges for a quick finish.

July's project is sashiko.  I purchased a sashiko kit from Red Thread Studio at QuiltCon 2020 but haven't had a chance to work on it.  Time to get stitching -- there's orange thread. 😉

TGIFF - Push Pull QAL

Do you remember my wrinkly quilt top?  It's now finished!

I made the quilt top during the Push-Pull Quilt Along hosted by Yvonne @ Quilting Jetgirl, but I didn't finish the quilting in time for the final link up.

  I used Kona Red, Morning Glory, and Surf.  It finishes around 44 x 49 inches.

My brilliant idea of using my walking foot to stitch a continuous spiral didn't end up being so brilliant after all.  I started at the centre of the four arrows in the bottom left-hand corner, but I echoed using the edge of my walking foot -- so I ended up with a 3/8-inch spiral.  😲

It took several nights of quilting, including a 5-hour session on the last night because I was tired of quilting and just needed it to be done.

After quilting, it did not lay flat.  I was going to block it, but that seemed like a lot of work for a quilt I hope will be used and washed on a regular basis.  I'll learn how to block on a smaller quilt another time.

As much as I hated the quilting process, I love the finished look.  ♥

2019 Summer Sampler Update

I participated in the Summer Sampler 2019 hosted by Lee @ Freshly Pieced (and others), but I didn't finish all my blocks.  The last block I made was #14.  For Block #15, we needed to cut 16 concave and 16 convex pieces, all from templates.  😲  Needless to say, I procrastinated with that block...and then all the rest of the blocks.

I am sewing along with the Summer Sampler 2020 this year and decided to re-visit the 2019 version.

Block 16 - Twist and Turn
Technique:  unusual angles

You'll notice that I skipped Block 15 -- still not ready to tackle the curved templates.  I think it was at this point that I decided not to do the curved layout when piecing the blocks together.

Block 17 - Scattered
Technique:  hexagons without y-seams

After the hexagons, the love for these blocks started to disappear.

Block 18 - Mission Beach
Technique:  hourglass blocks

Block 21 used templates.  Block 20 was half rectangle triangles and paper piecing.  Block 19 makes flying geese -- 2.5 x 4.5 inch and 1.5 x 2.5 inch.  So in the category of Life's Too Short, I decided I was done with this QAL.  I had made 17 of the 21 blocks, so plenty to piece a quilt top.

So I'm off to add some sashing between the blocks and get them pieced into a top.  Then I can consider this WIP complete and move it to my list of quilt tops that need to be quilted.  😉

TGIFF - Staggered Pattern Testing

Back in February, I shared a quilt top using the Staggered pattern by Kitty @ Night Quilter.  It's now quilted!!

I used Alison Glass prints and Kona Charcoal for the background.

I used a variegated thread to quilt wishbones in the prints and loops in the background.

The wishbone quilting blended in with some of the prints.  I realized at this point that the wishbones and loops were similar, not my intention -- I just wanted to do two different motifs, but I like how it turned out.

WIP Wednesday - 2020 Temperature Quilt

Lots of orange and red are appearing in my 2020 Temperature Quilt.  🌞  This is January 1 to June 30.

The top half of the HST represents the highest temperature of the day, and the bottom half is the lowest temperature.  Using my Accuquilt Go to cut the triangles speeds up the process, and there's no trimming of the 2.5-inch HSTs.

January 17 and 18 made an interesting pattern.  Both days used the same Kona colours but in reverse.  Kona Natural is used for the filler blocks.

So far, there have only been three days when the highest and lowest temperatures were in the same 3 degree range, which meant the same colour for both the top and bottom of the HST.
