TGIFF - Little Girl Skirts

I am hoping to be travelling next weekend to visit my nieces.  Fingers crossed that work cooperates and that we're not affected by hurricanes.

I made skirts during my last visit, and I promised I would make more.  Aliyah loved the skirt and wore it to bed, but Miah was not impressed.

The skirts are reversible.  This print is from the Woodland collection by Natalie Lymer of Cinderberry Stitches for Lecien.

I thought taking photos of quilts was difficult...skirts are even more difficult.

I didn't have enough of the turquoise fabric for the waistband for the second skirt.

I didn't sew the ends of the elastic together as I want to measure the girls to make sure I have the right size.

I also have the print in yellow and red.  I think I'm going to use the yellow print with a red solid to make another reversible skirt pattern where the waistband matches each side of the skirt.

WIP Wednesday - Quilt Buzz Bingo

Are you playing along with Quilt Buzz Bingo?  I am, and I have all my blocks made! 

I found some bright colours in my stash.

After I pieced the first five blocks, I decided I needed a better plan so I could chain piece more efficiently.

I chain pieced the next ten blocks, and they went together quickly.

And then the final ten blocks were finished.

Now to figure out a layout and piece the top (with sashing) before the September 5 deadline.

TGIFF - Criss Cross

Back in May, I shared my Criss Cross quilt top.  I tested the Criss Cross pattern for Sherry @ Powered by Quilting, but I didn't get the top quilted until now.

I quilted an all-over stipple in light grey thread.

I used the last of the turquoise Prism wideback by Studio e Fabrics that I was hoarding.

The above photos were taken mid afternoon.  The next two photos were taken about an hour before the sun began to set.  I read recently that just before sunset is a great time to take photos.  I think I prefer a little earlier in the day with a bit more sun/brightness.

I'm slowly making my way through the pile of unquilted tops.  I think there are ten remaining. 😲

WIP Wednesday - Summer Sampler 2019

You may recall that I abandoned the Summer Sampler 2019 last month.  I pieced the 17 completed blocks into a quilt top.  I took photos, but I wasn't happy with them.  And then I got sidetracked and forgot to take more photos.

But after looking at the photos again, I find them interesting.

This one almost looks like a painting.

I have the binding fabric chosen, but I haven't decided on a quilting plan yet.  But it's a pretty safe bet that it's going to get an all-over stipple -- quickest way to get it finished.  😉

New Ironing Board

*I just realized that I have not been receiving notification of blog comments.  My apologies for not responding.  I don't know know where to begin to play catch up, so I'm just going to respond to new comments going forward.

I have been using an oversized ironing board from Walmart, which is 18-inches wide.

I've been looking for a cabinet to make my own ironing board, but I wanted something that was 36-inches high.  It is near impossible to find anything that height -- everything seems to be 32 inches or 48 inches.  I finally found this used cabinet that has shelves inside.

It's 34 1/4 inches high, 16 inches deep, and 48 inches in length.  And only cost $30.

I purchased a pre-cut piece of wood ($10) that is 24 x 48 inches and covered it with two layers of batting and this fun cotton canvas/decor weight fabric (no clue what is...it was in my stash).  So I placed the cabinet 4 inches away from the wall, so the ironing board hangs over 4 inches on each side.  I was hoping for a length of 50 to 56 inches, but I didn't want to deal with cutting a huge piece of wood down to the size I wanted.

Unfortunately, I purchased press wood and not ply wood, so I have a strong scent of wood in my house.  And with my allergies to grass and trees, it's not a great situation.  It's been recommended that I let it sit outside in the sun all day to help alleviate the smell.

Even with the smell and it not being quite 36 inches high, I love my new ironing board!

I pieced the Penguin Party pattern by Elizabeth Hartman back in November at Sewtopia.  And then the quilt top sat in my UFO file.  But it's now finished!

I love the Prism wideback by Studio e Fabrics.  I've been hoarding a few pieces.  I'm glad I used the turquoise on the back of this quilt, but now I'm sad that I used it.  I need more!

Elizabeth Hartman has great patterns, but there is always a bunch of tiny pieces.  I always seem to "forget" this until I'm cutting the pieces.
