This is a great pattern using 2.5-inch strips; however, I felt that there was an added step. Coloured strips are sewn on either side of a white strip. The pattern calls for using two different coloured strips.
The strip sets are then cut into sections.
And then you cut the section in half down the middle of the white strip.
Instead of sewing two coloured strips on either side of a 2.5-inch white strip, I would have preferred to have sewn a 1.25-inch white strips to each coloured strip and saved cutting all the pieces in half.
The block is then made using one partial seam.
The kit used all the same fabric, in seven different colours.

Lovely top, so bright and cheery. I totally agree that it seems as if it would be so much easier to just sew thinner white strips to the coloured ones. I love bordering using partial seams and I really love the effect using the white along with the coloured fabric gives here. I've never thought to do that myself but must give it a try in the future.

ReplyDeleteThe pattern is probably written that way to be compatible with Jelly Rolls, which are already cut in 2.5 inch strips. It's a lovely quilt.

ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful finish, Anja! I agree with you on the cutting. I think there would be too much room for me to mess something up doing it that way. Sewing the smaller strips would be easier.

ReplyDeleteCheerful quilt. I agree with you re: cutting, but then again you would have had to cut twice the amount of white strips, so probably not a huge difference. Either way, it's a fun quilt!

ReplyDeleteI've made a quilt with the same block and I agree with your assessment. Sewing the thinner strip to each coloured strip was simpler than what you did appears to be. I like to avoid extra steps when I can.
I see most of us would have preferred working with a thinner white strip. Your quilt top turned out beautifully. The colour combination is really cheery.
