TGIFF - Featherweight Tote

As usual, I got sidetracked with a new project.  You may remember I told you about my first Featherweight purchase back in July.  It didn't come with a case, and I didn't have the right size bag in my extensive collection of bags.  So Jeni @ In Color Order to the rescue with her Sew Portable Travel Set pattern.

I decided to use a home decor weight fabric for the exterior, and I didn't do the fabric accents on the handles.

This bag is sturdy -- it has batting, cotton canvas, and interfacing.

Perhaps I'll use it to take my Featherweight to our guild Sew In next weekend.

Did you know that Patti @  Elm Street Quilts is hosting her annual Bag It linky party.  You have until December 15 to link up any bags you've made this fall.

  1. What a great bag! I need to take a look at that pattern. I bought a small rolling scrap bookers cart for my featherweight. But the bag is so much cuter!

  2. Such perfect colors for you, Anja! I would love to see the machine photographed in the bag (hint, hint - haha, that's actually not subtle at all)! :)

  3. Very nicely done! When I found my FW it came with a case but without the tray or any extra feet or anything.

And someone else is doing a weekly bag making link up. SOTAK Handmade maybe? Have a great weekend.

  10. This is a terrific carry bag, Anja! I have a featherweight, and it came with its original case. It's so beat up and ugly - I should make something pretty, too, for it! Did you need to reinforce the bottom with anything particularly rigid, or is the canvas/batting/interfacing combo fine for that?

  13. I saw this ...on Instagram? When it hadn't grown up yet I believe... or maybe it was a prior post with your goals. In any event (!!) it turned out terrific! Great idea to use canvas. I have a case for each of my Featherweights but apparently people don't like to use them, preferring to keep them in as good a shape as they can. So I feel one of these is in my future... I think we talked about one (somewhere!) I saw that opens out to a sewing pad/tool holder or something? Oh to snap the fingers and instantly make all these great projects we spy, eh? Let us know how it does if you do use it at your Sew In!

  15. That's really cute! Using home dec fabrics was a good idea on a project like this one.

  16. You got sidetracked and made a bag? That makes it a Dreami. Home decor makes a pretty bag even sturdier.
And if this what you do when you are sidetracked, I'd love to see you work when you are super-focused:-)
