TGIFF - Harmony Hand Pieced QAL

Thanks to Patty @ Elm Street Quilts and Kristin @ Simple Handmade Everyday for another great hand-pieced pattern and QAL.

This finishes at 28 inches.  I used Kona Grapemist (background), Lemon, Bright Pink, and Chartreuse.

I did machine stitch the binding to the front but hand stitched it to the back.

I used matching perle cotton, but in the corners, I stitched a line of each of the four colours.

I found a fun print in my stash to use for the backing.

I enjoy big stitch quilting on small projects like this.

I used my favourites:

Pattern Testing - Woven

Last year, I tested a new pattern for Cindy @ Stitchin at Home.  And it's being released today.  Stop by to see Cindy's version and to get a copy of the Woven pattern.

I made the baby size and used Kona Highlight and Magenta.

Dena is behind the quilt.

These photos were taken at Blue Rocks, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.

There are a lot of photos.  It's an amazing spot to do a photo shoot.

It was a beautiful August day (when we were allowed to gather with distancing).  The morning started out with Dena and I for a quick visit and ended up being an entire day of adventure with Linda and Beth.

Are you still here?  There are more photos.

I did deviate from the pattern.  I'd like to say that I was being a rebel, but it was actually because I didn't calculate my fabric correctly and didn't have enough to do the outer border.  But I think it works without the border.

Some of the fishing shacks are brightly coloured.

It was fun having a proper quilt photo shoot with friends to provide assistance.

The sun was shining, and it was one of the best 11 hours I had spent in a very long time.  I was so glad to have some quality time with good quilty friends.  I'm looking forward to more of these days in the future.

Dena took a photo of Linda, Beth, and myself just before we left Blue Rocks.

We then headed to Bridgewater, and our friend Val was happy to sell us fabric.  On the way home, I stopped and bought two pairs of shoes.  Thanks for an awesome day, friends.  We need to do it again.

Don't forget to visit Cindy to see her version of Woven and to see versions from other testers.

TGIFF - Modern Plus Sampler

This is the final UFO that I finished over the Christmas break.  I sewed along for the Modern Plus Sampler QAL hosted by Cheryl @ Meadow Mist Designs and Paige @ Quilted Blooms.

I finished this top back in March 2019.  It finishes at 62 x 70 inches.

I used Kona Sky, Nautical, Tiger Lily, and Saffron.  I quilted an all-over stipple in Pumpkin thread by Connecting Threads.  Now that the Canadian dollar is improving, it might be time to order more thread.

I'm slowly depleting my stash of Hobbs Heirloom Premium 80/20 batting.  It has been difficult to purchase from Michaels, so I'm glad I had a huge stash from when they used to offer 50% off coupons.

WIP Wednesday - Harmony Hand Pieced Update

Did you sew along with Patty @ Elm Street Quilts and Kristin @ Simple Handmade Everyday for their annual hand pieced QAL?  They offer great tutorials and videos if you're new to hand piecing.

I found Wonderfil Invisafil 100 wt thread to be awesome for piecing.  I had a spool of brown thread, but it blended well with the Kona Grapemist, Lemon, Bright Pink, and Chartreuse.

These four blocks create a great design.

Add in some flying geese and triangle blocks.

Those blocks were pieced together for the last sections for the wall hanging.

And here's everything pieced together.

And as is the norm...time to figure out a quilting plan and thread colour.  I'm going to use perle cotton to do some big stitch hand quilting.

WIP Wednesday - Bokeh QAL

I've discovered that if you make the smallest size for a QAL, it's easy to stay on track with the schedule.  😊  The 3-week pace for the Bokeh QAL hosted by Yvonne @ Quilting Jetgirl is enough time to sew, but with a buffer in case life gets in the way.

My colours are Kona Storm, Blueprint, Quicksilver, Chartreuse, and Natural.  The first step was flying geese.

Then we moved on to square-in-square blocks and HSTs.

And then there were four blocks.

I was able to use my Betty Crockerass templates to do the curved piecing.

It didn't take long to piece the four curves to create the the inset curved star.

Time to decide on a quilting plan and thread colour.

2021 Monthly Color Challenge - May Block

Time is moving along for the 2021 Monthly Color Challenge hosted by Jen @ Patterns by Jen.  If you are new to this block of the month or have finally decided to join in, you can get all the details here.  This year's colours are inspired by fruits and vegetables, and some of the bloggers are sharing their favourite recipes.

The May colour is brown, and I used Kona Chocolate and Earth.  Once again, out came my trusty Bloc Loc ruler to make the HSTs.

The square-in-square block was easy to piece.

Next up was some strip piecing.
