Throwback Thursday - Double Wedding Ring

Time to showcase quilts from our quilty past.  Head over to visit Jenn @ A Quarter Inch from the Edge for Throwback Thursday.

I don't know the exact year for this double wedding ring, but it's from my early years of quilting, so mid 2000's.  This was a class at my LQS.  My first attempt at curved piecing, which taught me that I don't like curved piecing.

This quilt is one of several that I sent to Mira Stitch 'N Post for quilting.  When asked what quilting motif to use, my answer was:  whichever one could make the quilt lie flat.  My skills at curved piecing were not great, and there may have been a few wonky places.

I almost cut off all the points around the edge, but my bee mates encouraged me to keep them.  It made for an interesting and long process of attaching the binding.  This was my first attempt at cutting bias binding.

This poor quilt sat in the closet for many years before being quilted and having the binding attached.  And now it sits again waiting for its forever home.

  5. You're so funny. "which taught me that I don't like curved piecing." You don't like paper piecing, or curved piecing, or quilting. Careful. You're going to run out of techniques to like! :) Thanks for linking up with Throwback Thursday @ A Quarter Inch from the Edge!

  6. It's stunning and more so because of the work you did on the curved edges and binding.

  7. Excellent job on the piecing and lovely colors. Looks pretty darn flat to me! Aren't you glad you kept those points now?

  8. Wow! The Double Wedding Ring is a scary quilt for me! Your quilt is beautiful! I would definitely be terrified to do the binding on that one! Thanks for sharing :)

  9. Wow, a double wedding ring quilt as an early quilt? You ARE a brave quilter! I am still avoiding them. :)

  10. The edge of the quilt is just stunning! It may have meant more work on the binding front, but so worth it in the end :)
