TGIFF - Christmas Gift Bags

Welcome to the final Thank Goodness It's Finished Friday for 2022.

If you are interested in hosting in 2023, you can sign up here.

I made drawstring bags for my nieces to hold their Christmas gifts.  I used the lined drawstring tutorial by In Color Order.  I highly recommend that you purchase the pattern for the other sizes.  It's my favourite drawstring bag.

I decided to make nametags and embroidered the girls' names.  Now to make sure I get the bags back from my brother so I can use them again next year.

It's time to link up your finishes from this week.  Please visit a few of the link ups to get some inspiration and to share some quilty love.

See you in 2023!

This is the last block for the 2022 Monthly Color Challenge hosted by Jen @ Patterns by Jen

I used Kona Sand and Scone for the December block.  I made a cutting error, so mine is slightly different than the pattern.

Now to join the 2022 blocks with my 2021 blocks to make a large quilts.  Stay tuned.

TGIFF - Brown Bag Challenge

Welcome to this week's edition of Thank Goodness It's Finished Friday.  TGIFF is the opportunity to share your finish from this week. You can find out who is hosting each week by heading over to the TGIFF blog. If you are interested in hosting, the 2023 schedule has been posted.

Merry Christmas.  Happy Hanukkah.  Happy Holidays.  The holiday season is a time for celebration and a time for giving.  The spirit is in the togetherness and the thought to which you put into thinking about others.

This year, my guild (Maritime Modern Quilt Guild) did a brown bag challenge.  Each participant put 2 metres of fabric (yardage, charm squares, fat quarters, etc.) into a bag.  I got Gillian's bag.  She does not use social media, so I had to talk to other guild members to get some ideas.

There were three fabrics:  maple leaf print, green, and cream.  I decided to make a table runner and placemats.

I was able to make four placemats:  two with green background and two with cream background.  This was a good challenge in learning to use fabric wisely -- measure three times, measure again, cut once.  😉

I used gold thread and quilted a few different motifs, which do not show well in the photos.

I received a wonderful tote bag from Gail.  I put three fabrics in my bag:  polka dot, orange and purple.

I love it!

This was a great opportunity to challenge ourselves to use fabrics we might not normally use and to learn more about a fellow guild member in order to make something specifically for them.

TGIFF - Sewtopia Swap Items

Welcome to this week's edition of Thank Goodness It's Finished Friday.  TGIFF is the opportunity to share your finish from this week.  You can find out who is hosting each week by heading over to the TGIFF blog.  If you are interested in hosting, the 2023 schedule has been posted.

I attended Sewtopia Palm Springs the first week of November.  Quilting retreats are a great opportunity to sew and socialize with like-minded quilters.  This was the third Sewtopia that Dena and I attended.

There is an official secret swap -- bring an item, get one.  But there is also the super secret swap organized by Rhiannon.  You are assigned a secret partner, and you gift several items over three days.

Here are the items I made for my partner.  Each bag had some goodies such as chocolate and sewing notions.

My partner shared photos of items that she liked.  I couldn't find a pattern, but I managed to draw a paper pieced pattern for this cassette tape zippered pouch.

Sew Together Bag...oh my...this is the third one I've made, but I still struggle with both the pattern and the sewing.  Here's the tutorial I follow -- without it, I don't think I'd ever get the bag finished.

My partner said she liked Alison Glass prints, so I used a lot of different prints, which makes for a colourful bag.
