OMG Success - Stellar Stars

My May goal for One Monthly Goal was to finish the January and February blocks for the Stellar Stars 2018 Block of the Month by Cristy @ Purple Daisies Quilting.

✔ Done.  I even finished two of the March blocks.

This is Limelight -- a 12.5-inch block from January.  January's fabrics were red and pink.

As well as a 6.5-inch Ohio Star.

February's fabrics were orange and red.  This is Friends Forever -- another 12.5-inch block.

And another 6.5-inch Ohio Star.

Yellow fabrics made an appearance in March.  Another 12.5-inch block -- Fire Flower.

And...another 6.5-inch Ohio Star.

I gave up on the third block for March -- was having some difficulties with the applique.  I'll try again -- think I need to re-start and not try to fix what I have.

I received my May fabric today.  I think next month's OMG will be the April and May blocks.

If you need some encouragement to finish projects, head over to Patty @ Elm Street Quilts to learn more about the One Monthly Goal.  Did I mention there are prizes to be won!

TGIFF - Wonton

Welcome once again to Thank Goodness It's Finished Friday, being hosted here in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada.

TGIFF is your opportunity to showcase your finishes from this week and to see what other great projects have been created.

This is my version of the Wonton pattern by Jaybird Quilts.

I couldn't find backing fabric in my stash that worked, so I used mint green minky.  It's soooo very soft.

Because the prints were busy, I did a simple all-over loop quilting motif in yellow thread.

I had trouble squaring the sides, and my version ended up being 49 x 61 inches.  The pattern said it should have been 54 x 63 inches.  Still haven't figured out how I lost 2 inches in the length, but assuming the quilting shrunk it.

There was no plan for this quilt, but it may be my new sofa quilt.

This is one of my FAL 2018 Q2 goals.

Now it's time for you to link up your finishes from this week.  Link up your blog post showing your finished project using the linkup below.  Don't forget to visit a few blogs to spread some quilty love and encouragement.  Please include the TGIFF button or link in your blog post so your followers can also view all the great finishes.

TGIFF - Hands2Help Quilt Along

For the past few years, I have participated in a charity quilt drive.  Hands2Help is hosted by Sarah @ Confessions of a Fabric Addict.  This is the eighth year Sarah has coordinated this project.

Confessions Of A Fabric Addict

I didn't have a pattern in mind or any fabric pulled.  And then before you knew it, time was almost up.  So I scrambled to find a quick and easy pattern and discovered Strip Tango by Kelly @ My Quilt Infatuation.  You can find the tutorial here.

I had a bunch of fat quarters that I thought would look good together.  It doesn't look as I had envisioned, but I think it's okay.

A quick all-over stipple in grey thread for a quick finish.

The size wasn't large enough for the charity's requirements, so I added two orange horizontal sashing strips.

I would definitely use Kelly's tutorial again.  But I would make a plan and have a more coordinated collection of fat quarters.

WIP Wednesday - Classic Meets Modern BOM

It's the fifth month of the Classic Meets Modern BOM hosted by Kelly @ My Quilt Infatuation.  If you want to play along, there's lots of time to join the fun.

Crossroads is a 6.5-inch block.  There were two blocks to make this month.

Double Arrow is a 12.5-inch block.

I've been using these Kona colours for my blocks:  White, Steel, Turquoise, Berry, Pool, Parrot, and Royal.

Pattern Testing - Lattice

I had the opportunity once again to test a pattern for Cindy @ Stitchin At Home.

The pattern is called Lattice.  This is the baby-sized version, which finishes around 40 inches.

The quilting (simple loop motif) gives the quilt a lot of texture.

The background is Kona Ice Frappe.  I used a lime green thread because I didn't have a matching light blue thread.  It surprised me with how well it blended with all the fabrics.

A final photo in the one section of the lawn without dandelions.

TGIFF - Plus Playtime

Have you seen the new QAL being hosted by Sandra @ Musings of Menopausal Melon?  It's a free pattern, and there is still lots of time to join.  You can find more details about the QAL here.

I'll be sewing along with the QAL, but I had already started a quilt.  Here's my version using Kona Ice Frappe and Kale for the background fabrics.

I attempted a new quilting motif.  It was supposed to be straight lines with a circle added.  My straight lines turned into wavy lines, and my circles ended up alternating up and down from the line. Although it's not what I intended to do, I like it.

I love that we have more daylight, but the challenge is finding the right time and location in order to capture the true colours of the fabrics.

And an indoor photo.  I think this most accurately reflects the true colours.

The sewing instructions haven't been released yet, so there is plenty of time to jump on board and join the adventure.  Stay tuned to see my next version using a print for the background and Kona solids for the pluses.

WIP Wednesday - Wonton Quilt

The Wonton quilt by Jaybird Quilts is one my FAL 2018 Q2 goals.

Cutting went fairly quickly, but I discovered on the last couple of strips that I was cutting the jewel shapes incorrectly, so I ended up with a bunch of small and large triangle off cuts.  Sigh....I wondered why I needed to cut more strips. Oh well....now I have triangles at the ready to make another quilt.

Sewing the pieces went very quickly.  I chain pieced the two sections of each block.

The grey colours really didn't come through very well.

And then I put the two halves together.

There are two different colour ways of the blocks -- here is the light grey version.

The plan is to get these blocks pieced this weekend.  I'm hoping then that inspiration will hit on how to quilt this and what colour thread to use.

OMG May - Stellar Stars 2018 BOM

Back in December, I won an Instagram contest.  And boy did I win.  Not only did I win the pattern for the Stellar Stars 2018 Block of the Month by Cristy @ Purple Daisies Quilting, I also won the monthly fabric and thread collections.

These are beautiful hand-dyed fabrics.  This is January's collection.

Sadly, I've only managed to make one of the January blocks -- Ohio Star.

This is February's collection.

I can't wait to break into March's collection to get my hands on those oranges.

Loving the yellow and gray for April.

I don't think I'll be able to fully catch up this month (there are two blocks each month), but my goal will be to do the January and February blocks...with a hope to do more.

If you need some encouragement to finish projects, head over to Patty @ Elm Street Quilts to learn more about the One Monthly Goal -- there are prizes to be won!

TGIFF - Banner Year

Welcome to Thank Goodness It's Finished Friday, being hosted here in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada.

TGIFF is your opportunity to showcase your finishes from this week and to see what other great projects have been created.

This is Banner Year, a pattern by Andrea @ 3rd Story Workshop.  You can find Andrea's patterns here.  This is the lap-sized version.

I love this polka background.

I followed the pattern and made two-colour banners in rainbow colours.

Love this backing!!

Every time I take photos of quilts, the wind is blowing, and it's hard to get good photos.  Taking these photos, no wind whatsoever, not even a slight breeze.  I wanted the banners to "wave" in the wind.

This is one of my FAL 2018 Q2 goals.
