OMG Finish - Blooming Wallflowers

Procrastination at its best...I quilted and bound my June OMG (hosted by Patty @ Elm Street Quilts) today, which is the last day of the month and the last day of the link up.  😊

I had all the best intentions to get this quilted earlier in the month, but I couldn't decide on a quilting plan.  I often struggle because my "longarm" (Pfaff Grand Quilter mounted on a frame) only has a 6-inch depth for quilting, and I don't like to do too many starts and stops -- who has time to bury threads.

In the end, I did an all-over loop in a variegated thread -- Connecting Threads Primary Variegated #21223.

While searching the internet for inspiration, I happened upon a blog post that made me very angry.  It was about free motion quilting, but instead of starting her post with encouragement, the blogger basically said no one should be doing an all-over motif.  Are you freaking kidding me????  I have no idea what she said next, because I quickly left, and I'm glad I don't remember where I was.  Sometimes an all-over motif is what is best, and sometimes I just don't have time for anything else.  Don't judge me because I don't quilt like you.  Maybe offer some helpful tips to help me get better at free motion quilting and share your knowledge.

I wasn't sure if the variegated thread was the right choice, but once I started, there was no stopping.  It blended in quite well, but there was good contrast in the background.  The loops give it wonderful texture.

My efforts to get quilt tops quilted do not seem to be working.  Even with this finish, I still have 11 unquilted tops....seriously??  Clearly, I'm not working fast enough.

This was the last of my FAL Q2 goals.

June One Monthly Goal - Blooming Wallflowers

I played along with the Blooming Wallflowers QAL hosted by Christa @ Christa Quilts back in January.  You can see the beginnings of my quilt, but sadly I never quilted the finished top.

It's time to make a quilting plan and get this top quilted.  So my June OMG (hosted by Patty @ Elm Street Quilts) is to get this finished.

This is also one of my FAL Q2 goals.

TGIFF - Everyone's Got an X

My May One Monthly Goal (OMG) was to finish my Everyone's Got an X quilt that I made during the QAL hosted by Andrea @ 3rd Story Workshop.

I used Kona Pond, Glacier, and Candy Green.

I did straight-line quilting through the X and echo quilting on the outside edges.  I used Gutermann thread #650 and #7540.

It took me several days to get these photos because it has been raining and raining and raining.

A bold contrast backing for fun.  😊

This was also one of my FAL Q2 goals.

OMG April Finish - Meadowland Quilts and Pillows

My April OMG goal was to quilt my two Meadowland quilts and to make matching pillows.  I started writing this post hours ago but got sidetracked in my sewing room, but the great thing about being on the east coast is that you always have a few hours grace for midnight deadlines.  LOL

These two quilts will be going to my nieces.

They are 48 inches squares.  I wish I had another one of these FQ bundles, True Colours by Joel Dewberry -- it's a great collection.

Quilting is an all-over loopy stipple in light pink thread.  It blended so well with all the prints.  I used Kona Baby Pink for the binding.

Here's the second quilt.

This QAL was fun.

You can get the Meadowland pattern over at Then Came June.

Here are the matching pillows I finished last week.

These are also one of my FAL 2019 Q2 goals.

Finally a Finish!

It's been a few weeks since I've had a finish.  It's a small finish today, but a finish nonetheless.
This is part of my April One Monthly Goal (and one of my FAL Q2 goals).

These are the pillows I made using the two extra blocks from the Meadowland QAL hosted by Then Came June.  I tried FMQ on my domestic Singer.  Nothing fancy as I know the pillows will be subject to lots of baby drool and spit up. LOL

I also attempted quilting my nieces' names.  I definitely need lots of practice writing words.  It's a good thing the girls are too young to read.  😉

Aliyah loves throwing a pillow on the floor and then flopping down on it.  So these pillows will serve that purpose.

Finish Along 2019 Q2 Goals

And just like that... it's time to set goals for Q2 for Finish Along 2019.  I finished all my Q1 goals!!

You can find out more about Finish Along 2019 and link up your goals and finishes at any one of the following hosts:

*A little shout out to my fellow Canadian bloggers. 😉

1.  Meadowland Quilts - I participated in the QAL hosted by Then Came June.  I need to quilt both tops.

And I plan to make two pillows from the leftover blocks.

2.  Hand Pieced QAL - I finished all nine blocks for the QAL hosted by Patty @ Elm Street Quilts.  I need to get the sashing and the corner blocks sewn on.  The QAL link up is April 30.  I hope I can get the top finished by the deadline.

3.  Blooming Wallflowers - I kept up with this QAL hosted by Christa @ Christa Quilts, but then I fell behind when I couldn't figure out a quilting plan yet.  My goal is to get this quilted.

4.  Everyone's Got an X - This is the second baby quilt I've made using this pattern by Andrea @ 3rd Story Workshop.  And of course, I've fallen behind in the QAL as I debate/procrastinate about a quilting plan.

I like linking up with Finish Along as it helps me finish projects -- a little bit of accountability to help keep me focused.  Now if only I didn't get sidetracked by new projects.  😄

Classic Meets Modern BOM...Finally Finished

Last year, I participated in the Classic Meets Modern BOM hosted by Kelly @ My Quilt Infatuation.

I linked up my finished quilt top, but I did not get around to quilting and finishing it until now.  I did not win a prize 😲, but you can see all the quilts linked up in case you were looking for some inspiration to make your own version.

I copied the same colours from Kelly's original version:  Kona, White, Steel, Turquoise, Berry, Pool, Parrot, and Royal.

I had three months to decide on a quilting plan, but I ended up with an all-over loopy stipple.  I used a light grey thread.

The light grey thread blended in quite well with all the colours.

I quilted my name along the edge, following suit with Sandra@ Musings of  Menopausal Melon.

I managed to get somewhat decent photos today before going to visit with my nieces.  It was a dreary grey day, and we're in the awkward stage of no snow (yes!!) and icky brown grass (yuck!!).

This was the last of my FAL 2019 Q1 goals.

OMG March Goal

Cutting it close to the end of the month completing my OMG March goal.  😉

I started this EPP project back in August.  But it's finally finished!

29 inches on each side

I struggled with completing this project because I did not have any more of the fabrics to finish the edges/put on a border.  But I found some more of one of the orange fabrics.  I had originally thought about a dark blue border, but I'm happy with this.

I've managed to get my domestic Singer to do some free motion quilting (which is normally doesn't like), but if I use Aurifil or Gutermann thread and crank up the tension a bit, I can get good success.

I started with a large loop in each of the orange diamonds.  And then I did an orange peel in the navy blue around the centre block.  I had planned to do something different for the rest, but I was having good success so continued with orange peel in the medium blue, and then did two more loops in the orange diamonds.

I got inspiration for this project from Jayne @ Twiggy and Opal.  You should check out her blog -- she creates a lot of great stuff.

Now to find another EPP project.  I really don't like hand sewing, but I do like having something to work on when I don't feel like sewing at the machine or don't have a lot of time to sew.

This is one of my FAL 2019 Q1 goals.

OMG: March Goal

My March One Monthly Goal is to finish my Triangle EPP project, which is also one of my FAL 2019 Q1 goals.

My dilemma was that I didn't have any more of any of the fabrics that I used.  But I did manage to find a little bit of one of the orange fabrics.

So I'm going to finish off the edges with the orange fabric that I used in the centre block.

I had to trace the shape to get the right size template to use.  So now to prepare the templates and get the pieces sewn on.

And then I'll have to figure out how to quilt it.  I'm hoping to finish the EPP portion this weekend so I'll have lots of time to decide on a quilting plan.  😊

OMG Finish

My February OMG goal was to finish two quilts.  They are done!

I quilted the first quilt in an all-over loopy motif in white thread.

The quilting blended in with most of the fabric, but pops on the black fabrics.

I attempted something new...following the lead of Sandra @ Musings of a Menopausal Melon...quilted my name on the edge of the quilt.  It worked!

I did a flower motif on the second quilt.  And again, the white thread blended.

I need some more practice before I can say I'm comfortable with this new motif, but I'm happy with it.

This was also one of my FAL 2019 Q1 goals.

If you have a finish this week, here are some ways to share:

OMG: February Goal

One of my FAL 2019 Q1 goals is to quilt my Yin and Yang quilts.  I've finished piecing the second one.  So my February OMG is to quilt both tops.

I've decided they are just going to get an all-over stipple or loop motif.  Both quilts are 50 x 70 inches.  Getting quilts finished and out the door is still a priority, so no time for fancy quilting.

Here are a few of my favourite prints.

These are awesome Art Gallery fabrics, and I was fortunate enough to have won them.

I highly recommend One Monthly Goal as a tool to assist in getting projects finished.  Your goal can be something simple such as sewing blocks, cutting fabric, whatever you want to accomplish.  And the bonus is...there are prizes!  Patty is a great host, and you can find more information about OMG here.
