Stay at Home Round Robin 2022 - Centre Block

I'm sewing along with Gail @ Quilting Gail for her third Stay at Home Round Robin (SAHRR).

Generally, a round robin project consists of each participant passing the project to another person for each round.  For this SAHRR, there is no passing of the project, and you do all your own sewing.  Each week, there will be a theme for the round, and you choose how to implement that theme -- you choose the size, the colours, etc.

Today's round is your centre block.  You can create a new block, or you can use an orphan block.  My centre block measures 6.5 inches unfinished.  It does not look exactly how I had planned because I cut my strips of fabric for the concave pieces too large, but didn't realize that until I had sewed the blocks and realized there were some slight puckers when I pressed the blocks.  And I trimmed the curved blocks incorrectly so the curves do not end up in the seam allowances to match up with the centre orange block.  But I've decided to leave it as is.

I used Kona Nightfall and Carrot.

Here is the schedule for the SAHRR:

January 10 - Centre Block - Gail @ Quilting Gail

January 17 - Round 1 - Anja @ Anja Quilts 🠜 This is my round.

January 24 - Round 2 - Emily @ The Darling Dogwood

January 31 - Round 3 - Roseanne @ Home Sewn by Us

February 7 - Round 4 - Wendy @ Pieceful Thoughts of My Quilting Life

February 14 - Round 5 - Gail @ Quilting Gail

February 21 - Round 6 - Chris @ Chrisknitssews

February 28 - Link-up for finished quilts -  Gail @ Quilting Gail

  1. I like those colors, as well as the fun design. Looking forward to seeing your border next week!

  2. I love the bold colors! This is a great centre, looking forward to see this quilt grow!

  3. Love that orange, I can't wait to see how this one develops!

  4. I think the block looks great, even if it's not exactly what you had in mind. Will you be treating Nightfall like a background fabric?

  5. Brilliant and bold, just like you, Anja!! I'll look forward to seeing this progress into your SAHRR quilt.

  6. Hi Anja! I just LOVE that color combination. Carrot and Nightfall - perfect descriptions that describe the colors just right. It may not have turned out the way you expected it too, but I think it looks just fab. It will make for a great starting off point. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  7. Nightfall and Carrot look so good together! I have both interestingly enough. I still haven't made or looked through my orphan blocks to see if I may join in with this one....tempting.

  8. Beautiful center block! And I'm not surprised to see you using solids!! :-)
Glad you're on this SAHRR journey with us!

  9. Anja the centre block you picked is perfect! Looking forward to seeing this beauty progress to a finished quilt!

  10. Such a bold center! I think it's perfect.

  11. Wonderful center. Are you planning other shades of those colors or a variety of colors? I can see it working either way.

  12. Blue and orange - no surprise there :-) I am sure it will make a darling quilt!!!
