The theme for Project Quilting 16.3 -- hosted by Kim @ Persimon Dreams and Trish @ Quilt Chicken -- was Common blocks.
Common blocks are the core foundation of our craft – these are the block designs that no one “invented,” instead they’re the legacy we’ve inherited from quilters through the ages.
Here is my 36-inch baby quilt using Kona Nightfall, Snow, Lemon, and Cardinal.
I played around in EQ8 and choose sawtooth star, 4-patch, and HST blocks for my three common blocks.
I decided to use Dove Grey Wonderfil DecoBob 80wt thread again and practice free-motion quilting on my Babylock Accomplish.
I used a blue fabric for the back that I've been hoarding, but it suited this quilt so well.
I attached the binding by machine to the back and to the front to save some time.

I always do a machine binding, beginning on the back, especially for baby & kids' quilts because they get washed more often. This one is great! Love that you used your hoarded fabric for backing...I have to make myself do that with my favorite fabrics and it often really makes the quilt pop. Good job, YOU! <3
ReplyDeleteRobyn Wimmer, sorry I didn't add that. Shoulda used my Google account.
ReplyDeleteOh, this is lovely, Anja. I love when there is time to make a functionally sized quilt from the PQ prompts. Your free motion quilting looks great!
ReplyDeleteThis is just lovely. I love your final quilt and your color choices.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and colorful quilt. The solid colors look so good together.
ReplyDeleteFabulous job on this prompt! I do my bindings almost exclusively by machine and vary whether I do front to back or back to front - mostly on how busy the border is and whether I would loose points bring the binding to the front.
ReplyDeleteReally pretty!
