#BraveQuilter - Paper Piecing Pandemonium

Cutting it close to the deadline for June's #BraveQuilter link up.

I hate paper piecing; however, I may have moved from hate to don't like.  Last weekend, I attended Glamp Stitchalot (more details in a future post).  Three of the six classes were paper piecing.  Are you kidding me????  However, each of the teachers provided a helpful hint, and with those techniques, I was able to finish some of the blocks.

Here is my block from Carolyn Friedlander's class.  I need to make two more blocks to finish the row in the quilt.  This is my favourite block of all the paper piecing.

There were three blocks in Penny Layman's class.  I finished my mountain.  I got one section of my tree done, but didn't get to the star block.  I think there are five mountains, five trees, and seven stars to finish the row.

The airplane in Rashida Coleman-Hale's class was partially paper pieced.  I need to make two more airplanes to finish the row.

Because of the new techniques I learned, I'm going to attempt to finish the rest of the paper pieced blocks.  I'm not committing to making them all, but I would like to do two more Carolyn Friedlander blocks at a minimum.

I finished the rows from the other three classes.  Stay tuned for a post about the adventure.

  3. Paper piecing always seems a bit tedious for me, but the technique works great for lots of blocks. Yours look great!

  5. Wow! You've been busy! Awesome that you finished the other rows! I've been working on other projects since I got home so I haven't worked on the rows at all. Hoping to get to them done in the next couple of weeks. Can't wait to see your finished rows :)

  6. Insert laughter here. I guess the joke was on you Anja to get to Glamp Stitchalot and have to do so much paper piecing....but I'm betting you will get better and better at it. The blocks by Carolyn Friedlander look like they are worth waling the paper piecing path.

  7. That is definitely a lot of paper piecing to take in so quickly. I'm curious... which was the first paper piecing of the weekend and which was the last (and did it have any effect on which you liked more after having a bit of time practicing)?

  8. Look how perfectly your seams came together on Carolyn's block. As I may have told you a few hundred times, that is part of the beauty of paper piecing. :-)

  9. I'm still at the hate stage! I know as I see more and more patterns I love I am going to have to move on. We will see how that goes.

  12. They're fabulous. I'm glad you've moved from a hater to not liking it.

  13. I think that I'd rather clean out stalls than paper piece, but I've learned to tolerate them. There is a time and place, but the ones I've done are absolutely NOwhere near these beautiful works! I think you're brave already having managed these, but look forward to seeing you keep going. Don't lose your rhythm, and thanks for linking up for the June #BraveQuilter at Pink Doxies.

  14. Ohhhh, I love the Carolyn Friedlander blocks! Such a striking design! And that airplane is so fun! I still haven't tried out paper piecing yet, but I bought a pattern to try whenever the time comes. :)

  15. Paper-piecing... I can't say I don't like it because I have never tried it. Not at all. Good for you for sticking with it. I might make it my next #BraveQuilter task.

  16. I like that first block, too! Back in 'the day', I used to do a lot of paper piecing. Not so much any more, but I'm glad to see its back in vogue again! That was a lot of pp classes to take. Was that intentional? XO

  17. If anything was every going to bring you around to paper piecing, it was Glamp. Those instructors knew what they were doing! Carolyn and Penny's blocks need some attention from me... oh where does the time go?

  19. I am not a paper piecer either, Anja. So I am interested to hear more about the methods taught at the camp. And looking forward to seeing more of your progress. Love the mountain block!
