Alyce @ Blossom Heart Quilts is hosting the Milky Way Sampler -- there will be 12 monthly paper pieced patterns. No, I have not lost my mind. Paper piecing is my least favourite technique, but I want to retain the skills I learned last year. We'll see how it goes. I had a few issues with the first block -- this was the first time I used a print for paper piecing. I forgot that you have to be very careful of right side and wrong side of the fabric -- not a worry when you use solids. LOL

Molli Sparkles is hosting the Honey Pot Bee. Each month, there will be two blocks, but the beauty is that you are making the blocks for yourself. So you can pick and choose which blocks you want to make. Here are the first three blocks.
Modern Christmas Tree |
This was my favourite block to make. I'm starting to like HST's.
Starflower |
The strawberry block was my least favourite to make -- 2-inch squares.
Strawberry |
There are so many QAL's out there, it's hard to decide which ones to play along with.

Wow! Lots of great looking blocks! The Honey Pot is on my list too. I hope to go through my scrap bins to make those blocks. I absolutely love the strawberry block. Just incredibly sweet! I believe there was two sizes for that one.
ReplyDeleteGreat blocks Anja! Your milky way block is my fav, love the colours.
ReplyDeleteHaving just made my honey pot blocks , it's nice been in a bee fir yourself. Yiu know what you'll get plus on balance there's no stress if it's slightly off !
ReplyDeleteI think that maintaining your paper piecing skills with Alyce's QAL is a really smart idea. I also did not really like making the strawberry block in the smaller size. It's sweet when it's finished... but tedious to put together! I am glad I only had to make one!
ReplyDeleteThe honey pot bee is a really fun idea and the blocks are great so far. I love HSTs (well, except for the trimming part) and star blocks always fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm blown away by how many QAL's there are so far this year and it looks like you have pick two great ones to sew along with.
ReplyDeleteYes, there are a lot of QAL's out there - let's hope we get to the finish line! Thanks again for sharing on Midweek Makers
ReplyDeleteooo, i love those HST stars, like you I'm becoming a real HST fan, so versatile and so many ways to make them, which did you use?
ReplyDeleteGreat blocks, Anja! That strawberry is super cute. Great colour!
ReplyDeleteAmbitious as always. The blocks are all great but I think the Starflower are my favourite.
ReplyDeleteLove your blocks Anja! I'm really tempted by the Honey Pot Bee - your strawberry looks beautiful but I can imagine how these little squares would get fiddly. :-)
