The quilt top is all hand pieced, so I wanted to do big stitch hand quilting with perle cotton.
I used orange thread to quilt inside all the orange fabrics and blue inside the blue fabrics. Unfortunately, the blue blended a bit too well. I stitched straight lines in white thread in the sashing and borders.
Here's a closeup of the stitching.
I used Wonderfil #8 perle cotton for the quilting and to hand stitch the binding. So glad to cross another UFO off the list.

I love this quilt Anja! The colours and graphic nature of the quilt are just perfect!
ReplyDeleteHand pieced???? Anja, are you completely crazy???? (I loath sewing by hand ... that's why I just can't relate! :-)
ReplyDeleteYou have done a wonderful job with this quilt. I LOVE the large stitches ... it looks pretty great!
Congratulations on a UFO finish! :-)
OOOH what a great finish. Handpiecing isn't my cup of tea. But I'm thinking of doing one of my quilt tops using big stitch. I haven't put too much thought into because I have another hand quilting project going (or not going since it is from the early 2000s.) It looks great. I think blues are so dark you would have had to pick something many shades lighter to get it to show at all.
ReplyDeleteWow, you aren't kidding that the blue thread blends in really well. It was hard to pick out even in the detail photo! Your hand work skills are looking beautiful. :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!! Orange and blue are such a great combination!
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! Your hand quilting is so neat. Love it.
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely a work of love, patience and talent. I hope you have a special place to display it.
ReplyDeleteThat is a gorgeous, gorgeous finish Anja! Your hand quilting is soooo good!
