Sunday...oops...Thursday Stash

Some new fabric found it's way into my stash, but sadly, it's not for me.  I'm organizing a work conference that will have delegates from all across Canada.  I thought everyone should receive a table favour, so I decided on zippered pouches made with Nova Scotia tartan.  They will be filled with pens, pencils, post-it notes, and highlighters -- necessities for any conference.

The blue and white in the tartan stand for the Atlantic Ocean and the whitecaps of the surf.  The light green represents Nova Scotia's deciduous forests, while the dark green represents the coniferous.  Red stands for the Lion Rampant prominently displayed on the Provincial Coat of Arms.  Last, the gold represents Nova Scotia's historic Royal Charter of 1621, and the subsequent Grant of Arms in 1625.

I used my go-to tutorial -- Open Wide Zippered Pouch by Noodlehead.

I made a test pouch to make sure I liked the colours.  I love the yellow lining, but I've decided to use the bright blue zipper and blue thread.

It's been a long time, but linking up with Sunday Stash hosted by Molli Sparkles.

Sunday Stash - Free Fabric

Sunday Stash is being guest hosted by my friend Jenn @ A Quarter Inch from the Edge.

I participated in the Craftsy Sweetens Up My Quilting Life Blog Hop hosted by Musing of a Menopausal Melon and Pink Doxies back in February.  Here is the blog hop schedule in case you missed it.

We received some wonderful fabric from Sandra and Julie as a thank you.  Fabric in the mail is great, but free fabric in the mail is even better!  Especially when it's so unexpected.

Julie has been hand-dying fabrics, so she sent some fat eighths of her wonderful creations.  I wish I could say that the button does apply to me, but I'm trying to reduce my stash.

Sandra put together the black and pink collection....hearts because she loves us...well, I least I thinks she does....

The charm pack was a joint effort and includes fabrics from designers such as April Cornell, Sandy Gervais, Aneela Hoovey, Tula Pink, MoMo, and Phillip Jacob.  It's a good thing Sandra and Julie shared that information because I don't pay attention to things like that.  And I only know the name Tula Pink.

Thanks, Sandra and Julie.  I don' know what I'll be making, but it will be something that I can use to remind me of both of you.

Sunday Stash - Christmas Gifts in January

My second quilt bee, the Do-Bees, gets together for Christmas dinner in January.  It's often difficult to find time during the hectic holiday season to get together.  Our gift exchange has a set price point, and the idea is to purchase the same little gift for everyone, so we all go home with a bag of goodies.

The wonderful goodies I received were:

  • collection of fruit and vegetable fat quarters, a spool of thread, a package of needles, and chocolate
  • a pin cushion pattern (with included crushed walnut shells), glass head pins, and a fun yarn hat ornament  (*The pin cushion pattern was created by a friend, Karen @ Sugar Free Quilts.)
  • a pewter wall hook
  • rotary cutter case (filled with a zipper and selvedges), and a personalized orange charm pack from the stash of Jenn @ A Quarter Inch from the Edge

In return, I gave my bee mates a pillow with a pieced bee on the front.  Thanks to my friend Dena for doing the math for the various pieces.

I did loop FMQ in white thread.  Didn't realize that it would be so difficult to see white thread on black and white fabric until I started...might have overlapped some quilting.

I did a hidden zippered back.  The butterfly print is a tad bold and busy, but I thought it would be fun.

The FART That Wasn't

I'm a little behind in my stash posts.  Fabric generally goes right in the laundry pile, and I often forget to take photos.

Our annual trip to the USA was moved up from November to the end of August this year.  I had high hopes that this would be an awesome FART -- Fabric Acquisition Road Trip.  I had dreamed about all the wonderful fabric I would buy.  But alas, it was not meant to be.  Instead, it turned out to be the Shoe Acquisition Road Trip -- seven pairs of shoes/sneakers -- and I'm not complaining.

I purchased the orange wide-back with the plan to use it on the back of my Gravity quilt, but I have since changed my mind.

Wide-back

Before I purchased the orange wide-back, I wanted to use this Michael Miller HST print for the back of Gravity, but the thought of having to piece the back stopped me.  But I did buy one metre for the back of the Gravity pillows.

Some miscellaneous prints because the price was right.

Miscellaneous

And a few more...just because...

More Miscellaneous

I did purchase notions at Joann's:  several bottles of spray baste, a bottle of spray starch, pins, and rotary cutter blades -- using 50% off coupons.  Yeah for coupons!!
