The Hand Pieced QAL co-hosted by Patty @ Elm Street Quilts and Kristin @ Simple Handmade Everyday started in January 2019.
With the exception of machine quilting around the blocks to help with basting and machine stitching the binding to the front only, this 33 x 33 inch quilt is all hand pieced and hand quilted.
I am quite surprised at how much I enjoyed the hand work. The top was finished back in April 2019, but then I didn't know how to quilt it, so it joined the pile of tops waiting to be quilted.

I used white #8 perle cotton in the all white backgrounds of the nine blocks. And then I used various colours of #8 perle cotton to do straight lines in the setting triangles.
I also hand stitched the binding using #8 perle cotton.
My favourite Hobbs Premium 80/20 batting to make for a wonderful baby quilt.

What a lovely, colorful finish! I'm intrigued by hand quilting but rarely do any. How did you find sewing the perle cotton through the Hobbs batting? Would you recommend that specific batting for hand quilting?
ReplyDeleteOh, the hand quilting is the perfect way to finish it, Anja. It's beautiful! I'm also super fond of that lovely binding. Congratulations on such a wonderful project.
ReplyDeleteAnja, this is perfect - really I just love it. Your stitching is beautiful. I think it was wise to wait a bit to decide how to finish it because -wow- it is lovely!
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful! I love the way you laid out the blocks to have the color wash from red at the top to violet at the bottom. Congratulations on your finish!
ReplyDeleteThis looks amazing!! Congrats on such a great finish!
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is wonderful. I like the way you colored the blocks. The hand stitching looks great.
ReplyDeleteThe coloured perle cotton and the many coloured binding sets your quilt off beautifully. I am glad that I got to see it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely finish! It looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful finish. Love the hand stitching with the perle cotton.
ReplyDeleteYou have enticed me to try again to hand quilt. I had a small project, a table runner. It sat for nearly a year. Each attempt, I was discouraged. I took out the stitches and put it away. I finally machine stitched straight lines with my walking foot and called it done! But, I really want to do some quilting like yours! It’s awesome!
ReplyDeleteLOVE it!!! Handwork isn't my thing, but I'm SEW glad to hear that you enjoyed the process.
ReplyDeleteOh Anja that hand quilting is the perfect finish for this lovely quilt!
ReplyDeleteWow it is stunning Anja! Love it.
ReplyDeletewhat a great finish! I really like the way you quilted it - it added so much to the quilt. and the goal to quilt them all by the end of the year - GO you!! you can do it!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely finish! I have a couple hand projects to get back too. I always thought I would hand sew at night, but I don't do it as much as I did. Maybe its time to bring it back.
ReplyDeleteI love how this looks. Very cool how you set the colors. I like how you quilted it, too.
ReplyDeleteThe hand quilting is beautiful! I love having hand projects for evenings.
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty! I love your colors and your quilting!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt...love all the pretty
colors...have a great day!
Love the rainbow effect & white background. Take care & stay safe.
ReplyDeleteWOW! I love the colors, the layout, and the colorful hand stitching!!!! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet little quilt! Love the added different thread colors of the hand quilting. You did a great job and another PHD is finished. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a lovely finish Anja! I love the almost "vintage" feel the hand-quilting gives the quilt. Your lines of stitching look really straight - do you mark the quilt top before you start quilting or do you eyeball it? :-)
