Scraptastic Tuesday - Drawstring Bags

I love the drawstring bag tutorial by Jeni @ In Color Order.

A fellow Girl Guide leader has been awarded one of the Royal Bank of Canada's Make 150 Count grants to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday.  It is a service-based grant to inspire youth to make a change.  Guider K's project is related to poverty and will be creating 50 Birthday Bags.  The bags will contain everything to throw a birthday party -- children should be able to celebrate a birthday despite their family's financial circumstances.

I decided to help out and make some bags to hold all the birthday items (cake mix, can of frosting, birthday candles, balloons, birthday hats, streamers, and a birthday card).  A few of my guild mates have offered to make some bags as well.  So I dug through the larger pieces in my scrap bag -- here are two of the five bags I've made so far.

I need to step up my sewing production this weekend.  I'm not sure I'll be able to make 50 bags before the end of February, but I'm going to try my best.

Scraptastic Tuesday - First Aid Kit

Last night was all about procrastination.  I was avoiding homework for a work course I attended today.  And also avoiding several quilt tops that need to be quilted.  But I felt like sewing a little something.  So I decided to dig through my scrap bag (aka pile on the floor) and make a little something for Scraptastic Tuesday hosted by She Can Quilt.

On Christmas Eve, my brother commented that he didn't have a band-aid when he cut his foot the week before.  He just recently moved out (yet again....have lost count how many times he's moved out and moved back in) from my parents' house.  So I thought I could make him a little first aid kit.  Found enough dark blue for the two exterior pieces and some red for the cross.  Noodlehead's Open Wide Zippered Pouch is my favourite pouch pattern.

But I was making it up as I went along (which is never a good thing) so the cross ended up being too big, and the bottom part is hidden when the pouch is full.  Oh well..even though the fabrics were from the scrap pile, I wasn't prepared to toss it and start again.

Ta da!

I was able to stock the pouch from my first aid box (yes, I have a box of first aid supplies...I am a Girl Guide after all).  I made the small size, but realize that the medium size would have been a better choice.

Scraptastic Tuesday - Klenck Junk

Remember the scrap project I showcased here?  My part is now finished.  Whew...what a relief.

Thanks to Val @ Purple Boots and Pigtails for including me in her One Mans Junk.  This is what the project looked like when I received it.

And now after my addition.

I added the year to the top border.

And initials in the bottom border.

All my creativity was used in the creation of the numbers and letters.  So the side borders are simple -- various lobsters, crabs, fish, and owls.  The animals were too cute not to include.

I'll be taking a social media vacation for the next week.  I've been feeling overwhelmed with creating blog posts and reading all the wonderful blogs I follow -- I can't believe the amount of time spent on the computer.  I've decided to spend some time focusing on sewing and getting my WIP's under control.

Scraptastic Tuesday - Charity Blocks

My guild, Maritime Modern Quilt Guild, is making charity quilts this year for our local children's hospital (they require quilts for babies up to teenagers).  We are making square-in-square block using this tutorial.  I dug into my scrap bag on the weekend and made 38 blocks -- it didn't take much time at all.  Linking up my blocks with Scraptastic Tuesday.

Here are my blocks, all from my stash of 2.5-inch strips and my scrap bag.

These blocks are so easy and quick to piece.  I'll be making some more, as I'm halfway to the 80 blocks needed for one quilt.

Scraptastic Tuesday

Although I desperately need to organize my scrap bag because I can't find anything, I managed to find some fabrics to make two blocks.

I'm participating in Stash Bee for 2016.  Cyndi was Queen Bee for Hive 7 in January, and she asked for a Scrappy Diamond Block.  All simple HST's.

I also decided to make the Aurifil January block designed by Heather Valentine -- again all from my scrap bag.  I found it hard to follow the pattern and lay out the pieces in the right order -- all pieces the same size were labelled the same letter, even though they were all different fabrics.  Confusing.
